My name is Dawn Williams. I’m 15 years old African American and I attend Providence St. Mel. I’m a One Economy Digital Connector team member of West Haven. I also help prompt www.beehive.org ,that gives information on Money,insurance,health,school,family and how to become a successful entrepreneur. My purpose as being a team member is to help citizens in my community, learn more about computers because computer technology can be a gateway to a new career or learning techniques. I know that some people have hard times so; I would like to help those who are willing to reach their goals, as soon as possible. This will all start with the help of my teammates and your anticipation.

IN THE MONTH OF MAY

In this month of May the digital connectors of West Haven are, going on a trip (May 10). Between classes we are testing our speeds in typing. Basically seeing how good we are with keyboard. You can’t teach someone something if you don’t know how to do it yourself. Last we are getting ready for our presentation on (May 25). We will be talking about the computer basics. How to use the internet, How to setup an e-mail, How to do a resume. Just the basics. The West Haven dc’s are doing this because we feel that the people in our neighborhoods need to know how to use their computers.

Hello everybody my name is Jonisha Jaqueria Britt and I am a member of the Near West Team of Digital Connectors. I attend Whitney Young Magnet High School. Digital Connectors is a fun program to be in because it allows me to better my computer skills, while at the same time hang out with people in my neighborhood. Personally, I enjoy going out with my friends and talking on the phone. I'd encourage young people to get into Digital Connectors because it is a great way to let loose and learn!!!

Digital Connectors Introduces Team Member: Alonzo Rathers

Hi, I'm Alonzo. I am 17 years old. The high school that I attend is Crane Tech Prep. The subjects I’m most good at are reading, math, and science. As a Digital Connector of the Near West Side, I plan to become better and faster in typing and teach others to have better typing skills as well.

Digital Connectors April Updates:

The things we’ve been doing these last couple of weeks. We worked on our typing skills that was very fun. All of our typing skills are raised up to a new level now thanks to Ms. Pam having us working on them every week. We also learned more about the computers by doing the gcflearnfree.org quizzes on Computer Basics, Emailing, Power Point and Internet Basics. The easy part of these past weeks was that working hard and earning some points. The hard part was that we had to memorize some hard computers terms. Finally in these past couple of weeks has been a nice and good influence on me and it makes me happy to be in this Digital Connector program. Now we are preparing for our Community Technology Workshop on May 17, 2006.

The New Homes

The becoming of 2002
The mayor finally put some plans into use
No one expected this much change
As I look around nothing is the same
Everyone had their family around
Kids out playing “It” in the halls
But the mayor’s new plans just made them fall
Now we got town homes
That’s no larger then my pinky finger
Neighborhoods looking like the suburbs
Homes connecting like a buffalo herd
Because I feel crowded and forgotten
In the little space they gave some of us
And dumped the rest of us in the garbage
They even added fake grass and trees
Mexicans to come over and clean
But this still don’t change my feelings
No matter how much you dress the outside
You can’t change the roots that’s always there
The projects gone
But the memories will always float in the air

Hi my name is Darious Richardson, and I’m a digital connector for One Economy. They are the reason why my computer skills are so good now. This is my second time around with this program. I go to Crane High School at 2245 W. Jackson. I am a freshman and so far I like it. By next year things should be going a lot better because I will be on the basketball team. Finally, I recommend people to join this program because it can help you in a whole lot of ways. It could help you with your computer skills, money, and ways to get more money back on your taxes.

My name is Vanessa Rathers and I am 15 years old. I am currently a sophomore at Kenwood Academy in Chicago, IL. My hobbies are talking on the phone, shopping at the mall, and playing with my baby cousin Nickyah. When I graduate from high school I would like to attend Hampton University and Howard University Law School so that I can become a Criminal Attorney and eventually start my own practice. I always try to enjoy my life to the fullest extent.

My name is Nakia Nelson . I attend Wells Community Academy High School . Why I attend Digital Connectors is because I heard from a friend that it was an o.k. program to join , and that it contains something about computers and I like computers . Also you can teach others how to use the computer if they don’t how. My other interest which is things that I like to do besides coming to Digital Connnectors is playing basketball or volleyball. I also enjoy doing English work and writing short stories / making up short stories.
